Phlogger

Whoops, just downloaded a blogger app on my phone again. This time, I refrained from naming the post "test" or some variation thereof. Ha

Up In The Air

There may be Big Changes looming on the horizon; still far distant, but visible enough to cause concern (thanks in no small part to the events of the current pandemic). I can't say more than that with any certainty, only that it's enough to plant some Future Worries at the back of my mind, Behind the writhing mass of Current Worries.

Also we watched Space Force on Netflix recently, which is funny until you remember that it is based on a real thing that the President of the US did, and then it's a bit depressing.

Jesus Wept

Twitter went off last night because someone said Cameron Stewart was a big creep who was "predatory" towards young women working in comics and dated underage girls (yikes). A lot of women spoke up to say yes, they had had similar experiences with him. Fair enough.

But then someone started on Warren Ellis, and though no one is accusing him of targetting underage girls, there's still a lot of suggestion that he was engaging in similar 'predatory' behaviour towards young ladies involved in the industry. It all seems a bit unsubstantiated so far, but it's not looking good; there's a horrible trend of older men in creative industries getting up to extra shady bullshit.

Best Laid Plans

Every year I have a day-to-page diary, and lately I’ve been using it to track what home learning I do with the kids, and sometimes to plan what we are going to focus on the next day.
Sometimes, my plans go awry.

Back to It

The weekend. An end to trying to force learning into the children's heads. A (socially distanced) walk in the park. Finally, after months of lockdown, a trip to the recycling centre to dispose of a mattress that's been sitting around the house for weeks on end (and I only had to queue for around 40 minutes to get in....). The now weekly big shopping trip (masks included). Beer. Some time for Destiny. Scrubbing the kitchen. Even chipping away at some work.

It felt like an appropriately long weekend, and yet, Monday is here again all too soon. Must remember to make some time for drawing shit this week, before I forget how to do it,

You know what sucks harder than maths?

Trying to teach your kids maths.
If you aren't a great teacher AND really good at maths, you are basically fucked.
I mean I'm ok with primary school mathematics, but I'm a fucking horrible teacher. Teachers deserve more respect.

Broken Biscuits

I rarely post here, but I do have IFTTT set up to post all my Instagram photos here as individual posts with images. Which I thought was cool, but looking back through the blog, all the images are now broken - so all of those posts are now just a bit of text with a stream of meaningless hashtags (and in a massive font no less). So now I have to trawl backwards through my posts, deleting all these pointless broken things. My pictures are all still alive and well on Instagram, at least.

Lumpy Freak

About two months ago, I pulled a muscle in my back, and a lump popped up out of nowhere. It didn't hurt, it didn't do anything, and I left it. Two weeks later it was still there, so I called the doctor. Still in lockdown, so I described the lump over the phone. Two weeks later he called back, to ask if it was still there. It was, so I had to make an appointment to go in. I still have to have an ultrasound to confirm it,but his diagnosis... it's a lipoma.
That is to say, a random lump of fat that has grown under my skin, and is harmless (if unsightly).
Thanks, body.
